ENElastics and leak barriers
Elastane threads under tension and barriers standing along the thighs close the product without squeezing. This is what blocks leaks when lying and sitting.
Elastic threads
At the legs and the waist, elastane threads are bonded under tension between the layers. Their number, fineness and elongation are chosen to follow the body without marking. An elastic that is too strong leaves red traces; too weak, the product gapes.
Leak barriers
Along the core, two hydrophobic nonwoven barriers stand up thanks to an elastic thread at their top. Properly placed in the groin fold, they hold liquid arriving from the side, lying or seated. This is why the tutorial insists on that gesture: check that the barriers are turned outward, not folded in.
Waist and ear elastics
On briefs, stretch ears and a back elastic keep the product high at the back, where liquid goes when lying down. On absorbent underwear, the whole waistband is elasticated, like a garment.
